Ocean of Color
Rich, blue-green jewelry is in abundance for spring – signaling the promise of warm weather, vacations and resort-wear ahead. These ocean-inspired jewelry pieces are organic, natural and earth-inspired.
J. Crew Marina Necklace – wear with white jeans! $125
A Peace Treaty, Tubar Ring, $132
The Serenity Stone Necklace, $198, from Stella & Dot (as seen in People Style Watch). 12 carat gold plated, mix of smooth, faceted glass stones and turquoise & dyed jade. A gorgeous, versatile statement piece for summer!
Diya Chandeliers, Anthropologie, $298
Lust-worthy Irene Neuwirth earrings, $3,370
I love how refreshing these shades are: simple, yet classic and sophisticated. Colors like jade, aquamarine, and ocean-blue will complement your neutral basics and really pop against your black and whites for spring!
Stay chic,
Annie
Pretty Little Things
Is your jewelry collection continually expanding? If you’re like me, it’s a challenge to make room for your jewelry, much less keep it organized and accessible. Instead of digging through countless stacks of cocktail rings and bangles, why not invest in a jewelry stand that takes some of the work out of accessorizing? These stands are pretty, modern, and whimsical, a welcome addition to your vanity or closet.
Two’s Company Gold Leaf Birds Jewelry Holder, $43.49
Anthropologie Wish Tree Jewelry Holder, $98. The height on this one suits long pendant necklaces.
Little Birch Jewelry Stand, Urban, $32
Another creative way to showcase your necklaces (and to keep them from tangling up) is to invest in a couple of vintage-inspired hooks (Anthropologie has a delicious assortment). Fasten three on your closet door, inside an armoire, or even on the wall beside your vanity, for a functional, yet decorative touch.
Key Hook Rack, $24
And last, but not least, one of my favorite ways to display accessories: take an old frame, remove the back and replace with corkboard, and voila! All you need are pushpins.
I’ve seen this done in a couple of boutiques- an innovative merchandising technique. Image via here.
How do you like to store and display your pretty little things?
Stay chic,
Annie
Summer Scarves
Nothing complements an outfit more than a bold, beautiful scarf. During warm summer months, I love pairing basics – a simple white knit and a great-fitting pair of jeans – with a lightweight, breezy scarf. A pop of color or a whimsical print can enliven and spruce up any ensemble, whether it be a solid-colored dress or a peasant top and shorts.
Fortunately, stores are replete with an abundance of easy and effortless scarves this season. Here are some of my picks:
Need a summer wardrobe update? Invest in one of these lovelies, and add instantaneous panache.
If you tend to gravitate away from printed garb and towards solids, scarfs are a perfect way to incorporate prints into your style without having to sacrifice your comfort level. A drapey scarf is a must-have accessory and style staple for summer: an inexpensive and welcome addition to any woman’s closet. I live in mine (you might say they’re my vice).
I’m off to a much-needed vacation the next week or so. Until we meet again, stay chic & Happy Memorial Day!

Pinterest: Take Cover
My new obsession? Pinterest. As a stylist and fashion-enthusiast, I’m constantly poring over magazines and high-fashion blogs. All of my magazines are doggy-eared, folded, and torn up. I have stacks of articles and pictures I’ve tacked to my huge corkboard for my business, and my computer desktop is overwhelmed with inspiration folders entitled, “Summer Trends,” “Resort Wear,” “Wedding Inspiration,” and “Client “X”, etc.
Pinterest takes my love of magazines, photo-journalism, fashion, and collective-itis and merges them into one: I can now create virtual “pin-boards” and keep them all in one place. For someone so visually-oriented, this takes the phrase “creative outlet” to a whole new level. Sheer genius, and uber-addicting.
One of my first boards is for summer cover-ups. I love these breezy kaftans and tunics for poolside lounging and stylish sun-bathing. Resort-wear, here we come!
Anthro “Fade Into Green Cover Up,” $118
Missoni Zigzag Crochet Playsuit, $760
Vix Ikat Vintage Cover Up, $242
Nanette Lepore Crochet Dress, $173
Lotta Stensson Tie Dye Maxi Kaftan, $515
DVF Printed Short Dress, $195
Tibi Beaded Drape Silk Dress, $297
To see more comments and thoughts on these summer cover-ups, click here – and feel free to follow A Chic Critique on Pinterest as I collect photos and style inspiration. In fact, start pinning yourself. Watch out – once you start, you can’t stop.
Stay chic, pinners.

April Showers
…bring rain coats!
Although I loathe dreary weather (namely, getting wet), it certainly helps to wear a sophisticated rain coat. Rain never stopped Carrie Bradshaw from looking chic, right? Don a waist-cinching trench or a curve-skimming rain coat, and you’ll kill two birds with one stone. Functional? Check. Stylish? Check.

My picks:
Fashion Rain Coats:
Burberry Check Packaway Hood Field Jacket, $750 (obsessed, obsessed). Burberry is known for designing timeless, classic outerwear; this piece indicates no less. The longer length and cinched waist follow the contours of your body without adding unwanted bulk.
Marc by Marc Jacobs Celeste Rain Jacket, $328. Simple yet elegant – ideal for those rainy days on the way to work. The neutral color compliments virtually any outfit. Worth the investment!
Anthropologie Weather Report Cape, $595 (How darling is the bright yellow?)
Forzieri (Italia) Blue Metallic Wind Coat, $492. I love the structured femininity of this coat, and the navy blue adds a rich pop of color.
Sporty / Casual Raincoat I love:
NF Women’s Venture Jacket, $99 (Inexpensive and durable, this lightweight jacket comes in a plethora of cheerful spring colors (coral, mint green, turquoise, bright orange), so what’s not to love? Great for those cool, misty spring days.)
A dressier, weather-resistant trench is foundational to any woman’s closet – wear it with a skirt and heels to the office, or over a cocktail dress on a night out. A more casual, sporty rain coat is also a necessity if you want something versatile and low-maintenance.
Stay chic,
Annie
Spring Staples: The Lightweight Jacket
I have a thing for lightweight, springy jackets. Utilitarian, yet current, they’re the quintessential companion for temperatures in the 60’s and 70’s. For the office, I love an olive military jacket over a knit LBD, or paired with a slim-fitting tank and skirt. The 2010-2011 menswear-inspired trend still hasn’t run it’s course, and although it’s been tested, the blazer remains a classic wardrobe staple. For added polish and warmth, throw a light-colored blazer (think neutrals, creams, etc.) over a dress for a spring cocktail party, or add one to your nighttime ensemble of jeans, a silky top, and heels – the perfect amount of coverage for transitional weather.
Some ACC favies:
Elizabeth and James Codi Jacket, $395. Love, love, love this black & white striped number. Hot over a black dress or with skinnies & heels.
Anthropologie Airborne Jacket, $198
Free People Military Puff-Sleeve Jacket, $128. Easy & effortless with jeans.
Amanda Uprichard Relaxed Blazer, $99. This also comes in gray, but how a-mazing is this peachy nude? Great on warm, sunny blondes, or anyone with a tan (not me).
Elizabeth and James Rolled Sleeve Elizabeth Blazer (off-white), $395
You can find great, fitted blazers and jackets at a variety of stores within different price points. You don’t have to shop ‘high’ to get the look. Love the Stella McCartney at Barney’s, and that DVF at Net-A-Porter, but can’t afford the pricetag? Places like Piperlime, Nordstrom, J.Crew and Loft will give you the trendy look without the hefty pricetag. Just be a savvy shopper (now’s a great time to find jackets on sale), and look for quality and fit – or make an appointment with me to help you make smart, stylish choices. That’s what I’m here for!
Stay chic this spring – and rock a lightweight jacket.

100th Post: Feather Love
Today is ACC’s 100th blog-post! It’s exciting to look back over the last year at all the fun, fashion, and (according to a good friend) ‘chic-critiquing‘ occurred. Whether shopping & packing for honeymoons, making consignment trips, editing wardrobes, or beautifying a bride, I’ve been able to do what I love and am most passionate about: helping women of every age, shape, size, budget, and lifestyle look and feel beautiful. Get ready for another year of style-tips, “what NOT to wear” advice, trend reports, and ACC happenings along the way.
Onto today’s topic: feathers galore.
I often wear a pair of blue and green peacock-woven earrings I love, and surprisingly, have received more compliments on them than almost any other pair of earrings I own. I’m a self-professing “dangly-earring fanatic” by nature, so my collection continues to expand; however, this pair takes the cake. Half “where the wild things are,” and half “free-bird hippie,” feather jewelry reflects some of the most beautiful creatures in nature, but is simultaneously funky and glamorous. Unexpected and stylish.
Isabel Marant RTW (via Style) Love them? Here they are:
Swoon-worthy + feather + pink = A Chic Critique hot-list for spring. Unfortunately, these bad-girls are sold out. I know – I’m a tease.
Like the look? If so, here are my favorites.
1. HaylBop Originals “Flock of Peacocks Earrings“, originally $49 – now $24.50!
2. Anthro Alabaster Peacock Earrings, $38
3. Aurelie 18-karat gold-dipped Swan feather earrings, $1,300
4. Ron Herman Feather Earrings, $75
5. Forever21 Festive Feather earrings, $4.80 (look for less)

Best Coats for your Body Type
Winter is just around the corner, and as you begin to search for that perfect winter coat, here are some guidelines to help you in the process. Remember, there are specific silhouettes that flatter certain body types – so, keep these tips in mind as you shop. I’ve chosen my favorites for each body-type below.
Heavy-Chested
- Look for single-breasted styles as they won’t pull across your large chest. Steer clear of double-breasted! Trenched and belted styles also help create and/or emphasize a narrow middle.
- The ideal fit is slim, and you should be looking for a coat that is hip-length or longer.
J. Crew Italian Wool Blazecoat, now on sale for $222.40.
This Burberry Trench would also make another great option.
Curvy
- Look for a belted silhouette, or a seam than runs across your natural waist in order to highlight your hourglass frame. Show off that whittled middle! Single-breasted coats are a must for curvy figures.
- Stay away from bulky blends and materials. If you’re full-figured or plus-sized, look for an A-line cut.
Rebecca Taylor Ruffle Long Front Trench, $595
Pear
- Look for a waist-cinching silhouette that flatters your narrow upper-half. Also, look for details on the top (ruffles, embellishments) that draw the eye upwards.
- An A-line silhouette is your best friend, so look for a fit that is roomy throughout the hips and thighs (this will help camouflage unwanted bulk).
Anthropologie Cassonade Coat, $198
Another great (and uber-affordable) option for a pear-shaped figure would be this coat from Target.
Petite
- Look for sharp tailoring and lines in a coat. Length-wise, look for one that hits at the hip, or below (but not below the knees); you don’t want to overwhelm your frame.
- Try a bold, bright, “notice-me” color or print (such as houndstooth, plaid, etc.).
J.Crew Stadium Cloth Peacoat, $196
Another option for all you tiny-tater-tots to try would be this cute plaid ruffle coat.
Narrow/Athletic
- Try a double-breasted look if you’re smaller-chested and would like to create the illusion of curves.
- Look for detailing such as ruffles, hem-stitching, buttons or bows that draw the eye up and add volume.
Kensie Ruffled Bib Coat, $153
Another option for narrow, athletic figures is this Kate Spade belted coat. Killer color, curve-creating, and the A-line silhouette balances broad shoulders.
Stay chic,
Annie
Grecian Goddess
I have to introduce you to Eddera (Paris) and their line of beautiful, ethereal headbands. I’ve always loved taking an ordinary, standard ponytail or bun and adding a unexpected accent, such as a vintage scarf wrapped around my head, or a jeweled pin. A headband is an easy, stylish way to spruce up (shall we say) an everyday look and the perfect glamorous accessory for a night-out on the town or a black-tie event.
I am swooning over these grecian-inspired gold-filled Eddera headbands. There is something so effortless about pulling your hair off of your face and using one of these headbands as a statement piece.
Eddera Orties Headband, $150
Eddera Greek Leaf Headband, $150 (Rachel Zoe and Victoria Beckham are huge fans of these headbands).

Nicole Richie rockin’ her own House of Harlow Seven Strand Coin Head Piece, $455. (image via Google)
If you are not too keen on spending extra for the gold detail, here are some looks for less:
Anthro Over-Under Headband, $32 (I have this one in silver, and absolutely love it)
Fan of the homemade, artsy look? Support a hand-made jeweler and purchase this Etsy Aphrodite headband, $29.
Let one of these headbands be your crowning glory, and add instant polish and glamour to any up-do.
Stay chic,
